Buddha was born as Siddhartha Gautama in an aristocratic family with all the luxuries. At an early age, he decided to leave everything he possessed, comforts of home and went in search of knowledge to find answers to the problem of human suffering. He wandered for several years, and met and discussed with other about the meaning of Life. He meditated for several days under the Bodhi tree . Here, after meditation, he attained enlightenment. This gave him the name ‘Buddha’ (the Enlightened One). He travelled and preached for the rest of his life spreading his teachings with the help of his sangha (followers). He became the founder of Buddhism.
His teachings on meditation were diverse, focusing on mindfulness, concentration, loving-kindness, and insight. Meditation served as a means to develop mindfulness, concentration, and insight into the nature of reality and the mind.
Through his teachings and meditation practices, Shakyamuni Buddha aimed to guide individuals towards a path of awakening, liberation from suffering, and the realization of profound wisdom and compassion.
